Dead Alive
Before Peter Jackson rode Lord of the Rings to the big time, he was just a humble New Zealand director making some of the most disgusting horror movies ever made. Dead Alive (also known as Braindead) may be his masterpiece. The story is simple: when an elderly woman gets bitten by an infected monkey, she transforms into a flesh-eating zombie and spreads her plague all over the small Kiwi town she lives in. But the devil is in the details, and Dead Alive revels in the inside of the human body. People get strangled with intestines, chopped into bits, and at the gruesome climax we see the nastiest live birth ever put on film.
Honestly, it's sad that I have to put this film at #8. Believe my it we were going for disgusting and funny it would be #1.
