I'm trying, but today is not a good day
Out of all those in the room she chose me.
She gave me a name, an identity, helped me become the man I am today and for that I am eternally grateful.
She was a kind and gentle woman who loved to laugh, loved to dance, sing, whistle...loved life really.
Not many words for a woman so great, but that's the way she would have wanted it-without much fuss.
Today she would be unhappy if there were tears. She would want a celebration of her memory, laughter at all the good times and a smile for one who had a caring and giving heart then any I've ever known.
To more than just me she was Mum and she will be missed.
Today we still smile, but we laugh a little less, dance a little slower, and somehow the song does not seem so sweet.
There is a void that time must now heal.
Goodbye Mother.
With much love your foot print will always remain and your legacy will continue to shine in the man that is your son.

My cat the dog
There's the saying, you're either a cat person or a dog person, but for years I was on the fence. I liked both animals, but being as lazy and as socially active as I was, I chose to side with the low maintenance, independent cat.
So, I saved a stray Burmese- the runt of his litter- from a life living under a barbecue at a friend's house. She already had a plethora of cats and couldn't take on one more.
It was April 1997 and my first order of business after I picked the cat up from the vet was to give him a name as I couldn't continue on calling him by his temporary moniker, Baby April- it was too hard a blow to my manhood.
The cat seemed to take to his new digs quickly- the dark recesses of a basement apartment I lived in at the time- he scurried from one corner to the next and then peed on my couch before running up behind me and batting at my legs and running off.
It was this cyclone-type of behavior that earned him the new title of Taz.
Over the years I began to appreciate his special nature; his need to be around his people; his unending ability to entertain me on my worst days; his complete trust in me, in play, or in seriousness and a personality like no other I'd known in an animal.
This cat was more like a dog then some dogs, always greeting me at the door; always sensing when I needed him near me, or when to leave-when I was having sex. He also liked to bitch me out when I'd left him alone too long.
When GIGC and I moved into our first house, Taz was perhaps the most excited. With all the windows and light, he took to having many a mad-half-hour racing from one end to the other of our new, tiny domicile then laying lazily on the floor in the sun.Yet, his playful nature never seemed to translate well to pictures. He always seemed more pissed-off that we were being such idiots in trying to capture his moments instead of posing for the camera.
The eventual transition to our second house six years later brought even more elation and truly for Taz, it must have seemed a rags-to riches story.
But recently we began to notice he was missing a step. His ability to get dehydrated became a weekly occurrence, then daily.
Our long-time friend, our companion, was having great difficulty living up to his energetic billing. Sure, in human years he was now 68, but still cats can live to be 18+. He still preferred to be around his people, seeking our warmth and comfort, emanating his happiness, yet his coo when touched, diminished and his purr faded away to a barley audible murmur.
Today we put our dear friend to rest, to silence the pain he felt from the cancer he was diagnosed with, to repay the love he has shown us, to reclaim the memory of those special times we had with him as a member of our family.
I guess it's only fitting that the kitten who came into this world as Baby April, leave it in April as well.
Goodbye my friend you will be deeply missed and remembered with love, as you were.
Today, we hurt.

You don't know Diddley
As a tribute to Bo Diddley who died today, I'd like to re-post a little something as a tribute. Initially this found its way into the News and Reviews segment last year when Diddley had his stroke. It somehow seems fitting, with a new verse added on the end that is.
Come on...sing with me....
Bo Diddley clearly was not himself,
His speech recognition was on the shelf,
When all his ailments finally broke,
Poor Bo Diddley done had a stroke,
Bo Diddley almost bought the farm,
Shoulda been aware bout the pain in his arm,
Rushed to a hospital, put em in a bed,
Otherwise Bo might’ve wound up dead,
Hey bo diddley, oh bo diddley,
Hey bo diddley, oh bo diddley.
Now he’s havin' trouble can’t speak, can’t talk,
sure can’t play no guitar rock,
With a little improvement day by day
You might hear the doctors say:
Hey bo diddley, oh bo diddley,
Hey bo diddley, oh bo diddley.
Today is the day that Bo done died.
He can't drink and can't eat no Kentucky Fried.
Put him in a box, dig a hole deep.
Bo Diddley's going for an eternal sleep.

It's a Mr. Death or something. He's come about the reeping.
Remember Death Clock?
Remember how cool you thought it was to sit there for weeks on end watching the seconds you had left on this earth tick by one by one?
Remember how after a month of Death Clock you suddenly realized what a colossal waste of time it had been and that you better start living so you went out and robbed that liquor store?.....well...some of did.
Anyway I have a new link for you to go to. It won't take as long, but it still harbors the morbid fascination we have with dead things.
All the people who died the day you were born.

Game over
A Chinese man dropped dead after playing internet games for three consecutive days, state media said, as China seeks to wean internet addicts offline.
The man from the southern boomtown of Guangzhou, aged around 30, died on Saturday after being rushed to the hospital from the internet cafe, local authorities were quoted by the Beijing News as saying.
"Police have ruled out the possibility of suicide," the newspaper said, adding that exhaustion was the most likely cause of death.
Is it any wonder? Did you see the game he was playing?
Take a look.

There is no joy at Strangedaze
To most people today was Tuesday, a day to return to work after a long weekend of speeding up to the cottage, having drinking competitions with your liver and crawling home bumper to bumper. It was garbage day. It was another day where bills had to be paid and the rent had to be earned. It was hot. It was just Tuesday.
To me, it was my Uncle John's funeral. A funeral that sadly, I was unable to attend because I was camping over the past five days and he passed away last Thursday.
I know people lose family members everyday and their grief is no less. Yet I can't help feeling the loss here is greater. Sure John fought a courageous battle with cancer and it should have taken him a few years ago. And sure, some would say he lived a long life, fathered four children, had grandchildren and experienced the world to the fullest. Yet, for all his achievements some will now not come to fruition.
You see, Uncle John was a great story teller and in the last years of his life he set out to write many of those stories in a book. Pages of which he entrusted to me for my opinion from a novel that will never see completion. His stories were not only rich with detail, they were side-splittingly hilarious- funnier than I could ever hope to be.
In time I will endeavor to reproduce some his material on these pages. I some how feel he would not be displeased, for Uncle John loved to make people laugh.
However for all his mirth, today there is no joy at Strangedaze.
Goodbye Uncle John.

A link's as good as a nod to a blind bat
I’m not here to talk about Anna Nicole Smith who died suddenly yesterday, and which I’m sure, you are already aware. That’s a picture of her BTW for those of you who’ve been living at the bottom of an outhouse with a digital camera.......Come home Herb! It’s cold out and Mom’s getting worried.
After all, this is the Friday link and that’s what I’m going to do. I’m not going to sit here and discuss how someone must have told Anna Nicole, God was an old fuck who has lots of money so she better get up there quick.
I will however, direct you to our old friends at the Death Pool so you can see how many people cashed in with correct predictions she’d kick the bucket.
Besides Anna Nicole will always be here with us. She will live on in the embodiment of female impersonators everywhere in Elvis proportions....you know, “fat Anna Nicole” or, “thin Anna Nicole”.
So, go to the link and while you're there, why not sign up? Pick you're own soon to be dead guys.......and no, I'm not on the list.

Just slip out the back Jack...
Remember that Paul Simon song, "Fifty ways to leave your lover"? The following link has 50 embarrassing ways to die. Other than the #50, there is no connection except embarrassing ways to die is well...pretty funny....and Paul Simon is short and will probably be dead soon, which makes him funny I guess. So there is more of a connection than I first thought, but I'm derailed and way off track here. Check it out.
My favourites are:
-Drowning during your born-again baptism. (Yup that would be embarrassing.)
-Strangling on the finish line tape at the end of a marathon. (Don't have to worry about that one. I can't run around the block.)
-Being burned to death after falling and dropping the Olympic Torch three feet from the cauldron. (Remember when Ali did it at the Atlanta Olympics? Wow that was a close call.)
-Brain hemorrhage while trying to force out a huge turd. (Boy do these people ever know me.)
What are you still doing here? Click the link already.

Burying Six Feet Under
It’s all over, after five years of what I consider to be the best series on the boob tube ends its successful run. For me it's bitter sweet. It was a 5 year emotional investment in the characters and I’d have to say the final episode was more than I’d hoped for.
Fittingly directed and written by creator Alan Ball, he took it out as he did when he brought it in. It was inspirational, poignant, and still managed to maintain a sense of itself. He avoided too much "cheese factor," and gladly there will be no jumping the shark here. No reunion show, no made for the big screen movie, just a tearful and well deserved standing O, as an ensemble cast of talented actors leave on top and move on to other promising futures.
SFU You will be missed.
Ok...when's the next Family Guy episode on?

It's a Mr. Death or something. He's come about the reaping.
Death isn’t funny, unless you have a sense of humor. Ok maybe a sick twisted sense of humor. This next link made me howl. With the Pope and T. Shiavo passing on, as it were, I feel it’s important that we learn to deal with death, especially when we have to convey someone’s demise to children. What are you still doing here? Don’t listen to me babble, go check the site out.

Death wish list
I've been to, too many funerals over the last few months. The most recent was for a dear friend Nelson Da Silva who lived life like he knew it was ending. In fact, if someone had come to him and told him that February 20th 2005 would be his final day here among us, I don’t think he would have changed a damn thing. He would have been just as kind hearted, just as thoughtful and selfless, just as humorous and he would have partied just as hard. It makes me think of how I would deal with similar news if I knew. So in the spirit of the man we lost, I present to you 10 things I want to do before I die.
1) Lie naked in Times Square, (not that anyone would notice).
2) Visit a Gulag with a guy named Bubba Joe.
3) Eat sushi off Cate Blanchett’s naked body.
4) Pee in the water at Pottahawk as people walk by smiling. (Wait cross that one off the list)
5)......maybe it would be better if I put it down in song. Come on sing with me:
I’d go muff diving
I’d break some poor virgin’s hymen
I’d last 9.7 seconds on escort named Blue Sue
I’d poke my own rear
Just like Richard Geer
And I’d look at all the porn that money could buy
That’s what I would do if I could live like I was dying
